Buy milk for a baby elephant
With your spare change, buy a bottle of milk for a baby elephant at the Wildlife Trust of India’s animal orphanage in the state of Assam. $10 buys an orphan milk for a day.
Donate fire crackers
Buy a week’s worth of fire crackers for a family to keep elephants away from their crops (these do not harm the elephants in any way but the noise is a deterrent) ($20).
Help a farmer grow chillies
Help a farmer in the developing world grow chillies to deter elephants from his crops by establishing a seedling nursery ($50). Elephants don’t like chillies and they provide a valuable cash crop for farmers.
Build a watch tower
Watch towers are built by local people in rural India out of raw materials such as bamboo and rope. These are essential during the human-elephant conflict season as look outs to prevent elephants entering crops, providing an essential early warning system. You can buy a family a watch tower for $100.
Adopt an orphan
Sponsor an orphaned elephant at the Wildlife Trust of India’s Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation. Prices range from $75 for a year to $195 for 3 years.
Multiple award winning artist Nafisa Naomi is donating most of the profits from her elephant art, inspired during the filming of ‘Elephant Wars’, to this important cause. For just $100 you can get a very special present for yourself or for someone else, a unique elephant print, that actually helps conserve elephants in the wild.
